Why the Youth Fair Goes Dark on Two Mondays and Two Tuesdays

The 2027 Youth Fair runs 25 calendar days and closes on 29-30 March and 5-6 April. Both stops follow a Sunday close and leave all eight weekend days and five field-trip mornings open.

Miami-Dade County Fair and Exposition closes The Youth Fair on four of its 25 calendar dates in 2027. The four dates are Monday 29 and Tuesday 30 March, then Monday 5 and Tuesday 6 April. Twenty-one dates stay open between 18 March and 11 April.

The four closures are the right trade. Each pair starts the morning after a Sunday close, both land mid-run, and neither removes a weekend day or a school field-trip morning.

The shape the four dates create

The run splits into three blocks. The first runs eleven consecutive days, 18 to 28 March. The second runs five days, 31 March to 4 April. The third runs five days, 7 to 11 April.

Both stops begin on the Monday after a Sunday. Sunday 28 March closes at 10 PM or later under the organiser's published closing line for Sunday to Thursday. Sunday 4 April carries the same line. Each stop then gives the grounds 48 hours before a reopening.

Both reopenings fall on a Wednesday at 4 PM. Each stop therefore ends with a short operating day before the block runs into a weekend.

What the stops protect

The organiser publishes 80-plus rides across three areas: Majorland, Kiddieland and Kiddieland Too. It publishes no ride-maintenance schedule. The fairgrounds run 86 acres, and the venue's own event calendar lists no other booking on any of the four dates.

A ride crew that needs the midway empty has the midway empty on those four days.

The staffing side rests on the same shape. The operation runs on 800-plus volunteers who give more than 86,000 hours a year, plus more than 120 medical volunteers holding American Red Cross First Responder Certification. Two 48-hour stops break a 21-day gate window into three blocks for a rota.

What the four dates cost

Four dates come off the calendar, and they fall on the fair's Mondays and Tuesdays outside the opening block. The two Monday and Tuesday dates that stay open, 22 and 23 March, sit inside the eleven-day block, and both open at noon.

The first stop arrives late. The run opens with eleven straight operating days from 18 March. A crew that wants a reset after the first weekend takes 22 March. The calendar gives the stop at day 12.

The last two weeks price differently. Both five-day blocks open at 4 PM on a Wednesday, run through a weekend and close on a Sunday. Each of those blocks is five operating days behind one 48-hour stop.

Eight weekend days carry the demand

Eight of the 21 open days are Saturdays or Sundays: 20, 21, 27 and 28 March, then 3, 4, 10 and 11 April. All eight open at noon. A Saturday runs from noon to a front gate that closes at 11 PM or later. A Sunday runs from noon to 10 PM or later. Those spans are eleven hours and ten hours at the minimum.

No closure touches any of those eight dates.

The organiser publishes one attendance figure. More than 500,000 guests attended in 2025, across a 21-day event it also places among the top 35 fairs in North America. It publishes no per-day number, no weekday curve and no 2027 forecast. Divided across 21 open days, the 2025 total gives 23,809 guests a day, and that division assumes a flat curve the organiser does not publish. The value of a Monday against a Saturday cannot be read off any page the organiser serves.

The exhibit calendar sits outside the run

Exhibits check in on Sunday 7 March, 10 AM to 4 PM, and on Tuesday 9 March, 4 PM to 8 PM, both in Arnold Hall. An early check-in runs 19 January, 4 PM to 7 PM. Check-out runs 15 April, 4 PM to 8 PM.

Exhibit volunteers coordinate, check in and set up displays for 28,000 student submissions. The work therefore sits nine and eleven days before the gates open, and four days after they close. Arnold Hall and Edwards Hall hold the student exhibits while the fair runs.

The four dark dates carry no check-in and no check-out. Nothing in the exhibits programme lands on them.

Five coach mornings, none lost

Field trips run 9 AM to 1 PM on five dates: Friday 19 March, Friday 2 April, Wednesday 7 April, Thursday 8 April and Friday 9 April. Admission is free for students, teachers and chaperones in kindergarten through grade 8, and a $15 unlimited-ride wristband covers the rides.

All five sit on days whose public gate opens at 4 PM. No field-trip morning sits on one of the four dark dates, so the coach programme keeps every date it published.

The position

Keep the four dates. Two 48-hour stops follow the two hardest closes, no weekend day leaves the calendar, no coach morning leaves it, and the midway stands empty on the days a ride crew needs it.

The cost is four weekdays inside weeks two and three, and a first reset that lands at day 12.

A property pricing the run holds those four dates out of its fair forecast and treats them as ordinary Miami weeknights. The weekday gates that do open raise their barrier at 4 PM, so the demand those days carry lands in the evening.

Two documents would settle the argument. A per-day attendance figure would price a Monday. A ride-maintenance schedule would date the work. The organiser's site carries neither, so the four dates rest on the shape of the calendar.
