Functional Fabric Fair Fall opens at the Oregon Convention Center on Monday 26 October 2026. The organiser publishes three housing terms on a single page, and read together they decide who carries the risk on a room.
What the block keeps
The organiser names Connections Housing as the official company on its Hotel and Travel page. That page states the organiser has negotiated travel discounts and secured a limited number of reduced-rate rooms, and that rooms at the group rate are limited and available on a first come, first served basis.
Three clauses protect that inventory. Connections Housing charges no advance deposit for any reservation. No contract is required for exhibitor or group bookings. And official hotels will not honor direct reservations, so a delegate must go through the official company to reach the group rate.
One date closes the route. The page sets the reservation deadline at 1 October 2026. Twenty-five days separate that deadline from the Monday 8:00 AM open, and 27 from the Wednesday close.
What the attendee takes on
No rate appears on the organiser's page. No room count appears. No property roster appears. The page promises the rate in place of printing one: a Rate Assurance block states that show management has gone to great lengths to ensure its rates are the lowest over the fair dates, and that those rates are available only to attendees and exhibitors who book through the official company.
That is a comparative claim with no number beside it. An attendee cannot test it before booking. From 1 October the attendee cannot test it against the block at all.
The booking route is shut. The vendor's page for this event reads that the site is now closed to reservations. It notes that other hotels remain available, and gives one number for callers, 702-329-1211, answered Monday to Friday 6 a.m. to 3 p.m. Pacific.
That page dates the fair 26 to 28 October in its own header and titles itself Room Block Request. The organiser's page describes a housing website open 24/7 with real-time availability, full hotel descriptions, distances to the venue and email acknowledgements within seconds of confirming.
One further line assigns the residual risk. The Buyer Beware block states that reservations made through any other agency are at the attendee's own risk, and asks the attendee to notify show management if another company offers rooms.
The gap the model creates
A delegate whose plans move after 1 October holds no official route on a weekend. The contact centre answers on weekdays only. From 3:00 PM Friday to 6:00 AM Monday is 63 hours, and the Monday the fair opens starts at 8:00 AM.
Inside the block the room is not prepaid, so no money sits on the reservation. A reservation made without a deposit and without a contract rests on the property's own confirmation terms, and the organiser's page publishes none of them.
The exposure is the rate. A delegate who moves after the block closes buys from the open market, and the official hotels will not honour a direct reservation at the group rate. The assurance that the group rate was the lowest cannot be recovered once the block shuts, because the comparator no longer exists.
The position
This model protects the block and leaves the attendee holding the rate risk.
The organiser's side is clean. No deposit means no cash to collect and reconcile. No contract means no ten-room document to administer. A closed block means no inventory left standing against a rate the organiser promised and never published.
The attendee's side carries two exposures. The first is movement: a rate set inside a first-come block, with no deposit and no contract, is a rate with nothing committed against it. The second is verification: a lowest-rate promise cannot be checked when the number is unpublished and the comparator has closed.
Both exposures are printed on the organiser's page. Disclosure does not move the burden. The clauses are published, and what they place on the attendee stays with the attendee.
What a delegate can still do
Ask for the rate in writing before confirming. The page prints no figure, so the confirmation email is the only record of what was booked.
Ask the property for its own cancellation and change terms. The organiser's page carries no cancellation term for a room.
Check the block's status before booking travel. On 24 October the vendor page read closed, two days before the Monday open.
Call inside the published window, Monday to Friday 6 a.m. to 3 p.m. Pacific, on 702-329-1211. The organiser lists 702-476-6976 for reservations, and a room block request form for parties of 10 or more rooms.
Keep the confirmation and the correspondence. The organiser asks for notice at functionalfabricfair@connectionshousing.com if another company offers rooms.
The week the risk lands on
The three published windows put the first night on a Sunday for anyone attending Day 0. Monday 26 October starts at 8:00 AM. Tuesday starts at 9:00 AM. Wednesday closes at 5:00 PM.
That is a Sunday arrival and a Thursday departure for a delegate who works every published hour. The window between the 1 October deadline and that Sunday arrival runs 25 days, and no page on this fair prices a room across it.
