The position
Portland hotels inside two miles of the Oregon Convention Center should hold published rate for CANVAS 2026. The meeting runs Sunday 1 to Wednesday 4 November. Both organiser deadlines have passed.
Two cut-offs, both behind us
The registration ladder stepped on 8 October. A professional member now pays $910 and a nonmember pays $1,210, against $715 and $1,015 through 2 October. Each line rose $195, which is 27.3 percent for the member and 19.2 percent for the nonmember.
The cancellation term moved with the price. The register page sets no refund for a cancellation made on or after 8 October, and it extends that term to ticketed events. A delegate who books a room this week already carries a registration at the top of the ladder.
The housing guarantee expired on 12 October at 10 p.m. EST. The hotels page states that cutoff twice, once in its opening paragraph and once above the rate table. A reservation had to arrive by that minute to secure availability and the listed rates. The six-property ladder stays as a reference price, and the guarantee does not.
The deposit mechanic outlives both dates. Every reservation carried a card held against one night of room and tax. Hotels charge that night on or after 12 October and apply it to the folio at check-in. A cancellation after 12 October runs through the hotel and forfeits the night.
Why the deposit argument carries
A discount buys a booking and goodwill from a late delegate. The deposit has already secured the booking. From 12 October the house collects one night per reservation and keeps it against a cancellation. A rate cut in the final ten days surrenders margin on business the deposit already protects.
The organiser's own notice supports the same reading. The hotels page tells attendees that unauthorised companies offer discounted rooms, and that those offers can end in lost deposits and reservations that do not exist. A rate far under a published ladder reads as that pattern to a delegate who has seen the notice.
The calendar supports the hold
Halls A1-B-C run from 30 October through 4 November on the venue's books. October carries four events and CANVAS is the last of them. The venue's November list carries nine, and the earliest after CANVAS takes Portland Ballroom 251-252-253-258 on 6 November.
The demand shape is four nights. Six tours leave on Sunday 1 November between 7:15 and 8 a.m., so a tour buyer needs Saturday 31 October. The meeting closes on Wednesday 4 November. A delegate who flies home on Thursday morning takes that Wednesday night with them.
One bus tour runs on the Thursday, leaving at 7 in the morning and returning at 6 in the evening. Its buyers take Wednesday and Thursday nights. The halls stand empty through both.
The houses that can hold
Five of the six contracted properties sit inside half a mile. The Hyatt Regency occupies 375 NE Holladay St, across the street from the halls, at $235 single and $255 quad. Hotel Eastlund sits 0.17 miles out at $219 single and $229 double. The Courtyard sits 0.29 miles out at 435 NE Wasco St, at $224 for a single and $224 for a double. The Crowne Plaza sits 0.43 miles out on NE 2nd Ave at $209. The DoubleTree sits 0.46 miles out at $205 on NE Multnomah St.
Hilton Portland Downtown sits 1.87 miles out at $184 single and $184 double. Its entry carries a free MAX pass that drops in front of the convention centre, so the guest reaches the halls without a taxi.
The Hyatt Regency holds the firmest position. A guest at that address crosses a street and reaches the halls. The property also prices a fourth guest at $255, the highest rung on the ladder.
The numbers the pages do not carry
The hotels page publishes no pick-up count, no room inventory per property and no sold share of any block. The organiser's own audience figure is 4,000+ attendees, with no registration total behind it.
The hold rests on the terms instead. The delegate has paid $910 or $1,210 and cannot reclaim it. The house has charged one night and keeps it. The room is the largest line left in the delegate's budget.
What to hold
Hold the published single at the five properties inside half a mile. Hold the double where a second guest already pays the same as the first, which is five of the six. Hold the quad premium at $20 over the single, and at $30 at Hotel Eastlund.
Rates run $184 at the bottom of the ladder and $255 at the top. The $71 between them equals 38.6 percent of the lowest single. A $20 concession equals 9.6 percent of the $209 single in the Crowne Plaza entry and 8.5 percent of the $235 single at the Hyatt Regency. Both give away margin on business the deposit already holds.
One night deserves separate treatment. The venue's calendar carries no booking on the Thursday, and the programme carries one bus tour. A house holding unsold rooms for that night can move them without touching the four nights the meeting fills.
The desk should quote the deposit term with every rate this week. After 12 October the organiser's terms no longer govern the reservation, and the terms the property sets do.
